History
In 1873, Queen Street in Brisbane was a dirt road with hitching posts and horse troughs and one room shacks. Adelaide Street was a wide track with deep gutters crossed with wooden planks to reach the private homes on both sides of the street. The first Victoria Bridge was under construction and James Swan was the 12th Mayor of Brisbane. And it was in that same year that Mr. Samuel Smith decided Brisbane needed a first-class manufacturer of rubber stamps.
Today, from that first one-room business on the corner of Adelaide and Edward Streets, the Smith family carries on the tradition of quality manufacture that has grown the firm into one of Australia’s largest signage companies with national and international locations.
The company’s growth from the original Smith & Sons Pty Ltd. has been achieved by the Smith family’s commitment to manufacturing excellence, continued investment in research and development, and their strong desire to build a solid future for their family and staff.
Quality systems and procedures were introduced in the Albert Smith workplace long before it was fashionable. The demand for Albert Smith’s quality products grew both locally and internationally with our local and international production facilities. In fact, the Albert Smith Group pioneered many of the standards and technologies used in the sign industry today.
Currently, the Albert Smith Group is led by Samuel Smith’s great grandsons: Rodney Smith, Managing Director, and Mitchell Smith, Director. The company proudly boasts international manufacturing facilities and the ASG customer base is comprised of many of the world’s leading companies across a multitude of industry sectors. This Australian family proudly carries on the tradition of their forebears and continues to run the business from the head office in Brisbane.
